- Statement
- Much experimental work was undertaken by the Nature Conservancy at Roudsea Wood in the years following its acquisition as a National Nature Reserve in 1955. In 1961, routine soil pH was measured by the Woodlands Research Section at The Nature Conservancy's Merlewood Research Station, Grange over Sands. The original paper map has been latterly stored at the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, Lancaster (a descendant organisation of The Nature Conservancy), and the points and values digitised using ESRI's ArcMap software. Points were recorded on an original map at a scale of 1:25 000 which had been enlarged. The exact spatial accuracy is not known but points are likely to be accurate to within less than 50m.
