  • The dataset includes markers of oxidative state in banded mongooses at Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda, in the period 2017-2021.   • The dataset consists of tree diameter at breast height (DBH) of all trees > 1 cm DBH in 16 parcels of 15 m x 15 m in the tropical heath forest of the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve (Sabah, Malaysia). Also included are the tropical heath forest trees’ leaf element concentration. Tree DBH has been measured three times, one before (2016) and two after (2017 and 2018) the experimental application of Nitrogen fertiliser and CaCO3 to the forest floor. The leaves were collected before (2016) and after (January 2017; July 2017; June 2018) the application of experimental nitrogen and CaCO3 fertilisation. The experimental setting consists of four replicate parcels for the control plots, four replicates for the Nitrogen treatment, four replicates for the CaCO3 treatment and four replicates the Nitrogen and CaCO3 treatments combined.   • This code uses pathway modelling to look at correlations of exotic plant invasion in tropical rainforest remnants and continuous sites. Partial least squares path-modelling looks at correlations between latent variables that are informed by measured variables. The code examines the relative influence of landscape-level fragmentation, local forest disturbance, propagule pressure, soil characteristics and native community composition on invasion. The total native community is examined first. Then subsets of the native community are modelled separately, adult trees, tree saplings, tree seedlings and ground vegetation. The relationship between the native and exotic communities was tested in both directions.   • [This dataset is embargoed until June 21, 2023]. The dataset details vegetation composition of UK saltmarshes measured from quadrats across UK saltmarshes. Between 2018 and 2021, vegetation surveys were carried out at 460 sites across 33 saltmarshes as part of the Carbon Storage in Intertidal Environments (C-SIDE) project to develop an understanding the linkages between saltmarsh soil organic carbon and vegetation. Sites were chosen to represent contrasting habitats types in the UK, in particular sediment types, vegetation and sea level history. The dataset comprises of percentage species cover, plant height, plant richness and plant diversity data from 33 UK saltmarshes. The work was carried out under the NERC programme - Carbon Storage in Intertidal Environment (C-SIDE), NERC grant reference NE/R010846/1.   • Data comprise resistance of aquatic bioconstructions (Trichoptera cases), and the loose sediment they were built from, to hydraulic forces measured in a hydraulic flume. S1_Velocimetry_data contains the output after post-processing the acoustic Doppler velocimetry data for each flow stage. This includes the mean and SD of velocity (m/s) for each direction (U – downstream, V – vertical and W- cross stream), the quality of the data recorded by the ADV (Signal to noise ratio and correlation) and calculated values of turbulent kinetic energy and bed shear stress. S2_Case-grain-size-distribution_data contains the grain size distributions for each caddisfly case obtained by sieving the case sediment. Includes the mass of sediment in half phi size intervals from 0.063 mm to 8 mm diameter. An explanation of each variable and units are included in the file. S3_Entrainment_data contains the percentage of sediment entrained during each flow stage (1-11). Percentage of sediment measured using photography of sediment remaining on the measurement platform.   • This dataset contains moth species, parasitoid and resource provisioning data from a hedgerow experiment investigating the long-term effects of timing and frequency of cutting on resource provision for wildlife. The experiment site was based at at Monks Wood, Cambridgeshire, UK. Moth larvae were collected in May to September 2011 and reared in a laboratory. Moth larvae or adult moths, and any emerging parasitoids, were identified to species level where possible. Data on hedge plot dimensions and branching density and length were measured in the field at the same time as moth larvae sampling. Leaf samples were also collected and used to calculate biomass and determine foliar total carbon and nitrogen content. The hedgerow experiment was one of three long running hedgerow experiments focusing on management to maintain and restore the hedgerow resource under agri-environment schemes. These long running experiments were funded by Defra and managed by the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology.
